It's about time we had a challenge and since I wasn't the only one who felt that way, I figured I would start one. MMADfan (or Madam as I prefer to call her ) has suggested a Triplet Challenge. The person creating the challenge picks three prompt words from different "classes" of things. (I copied that from her cbox message because I am beginning to make very little sense at 3am.) Since I am starting, I am going to randomly pick a person, place and thing. oh, and for the record, they don't have to be holiday related; that's up to you! So the first Triplet Challenge is... Person: the Queen of England
Place: kitchen
Thing: Trevor, the toad
ETA:Deadline changed! No set deadline! Please note: The Triplet Challenge is now a relay-race-type challenge. Whoever responds to the challenge first gets to pick up the challenge and run with it -- in other words, post the response and then post a new challenge. After that, anyone, of course, may still write a story in response to an old challenge, but only by picking up the new challenge can they "pass the baton" by posting the next challenge. Also, please post your story to the appropriate area of the board (Fluff, Drama, Angst, Somewhat Charming Roots, Friends of Charming Roots, etc.), and post a link to the story in the challenge subboard. If after a certain amount of time (yet to be determined!), a challenge has not been picked up, a new challenge will be issued, but the old one will remain open, so the next responder has two challenges to choose from. (That's the plan now. :-) ) We'd like to keep things fresh and moving along! (edit by MMADfan, 31 March 2010)

Okay, that might be a bit too random. If so, feel free to elect someone with more sleep to do the first set of prompts.

Hmmm, methinks you have confused the person and the thing . . .
Just kidding! Just kidding! (Sorry, I'm feeling peculiar and fuzzy-headed today and I think it did something to my sense of humor, which is bizarre to begin with!)
I will try to do something with that challenge. But I think it should have some kind of "sell by date" on it. One month from today? Or something like that? Otherwise, I just kinda tend to fizzle, like a damp squib. The Muggle kind of squib. Of course, I might do that, anyway ...
Told ya about my sense of humor today!

You are making me smile, so it works for me. I did mean to include a "sell by date" but forgot in my sleepiness. I think a month from the day it starts sounds good.

Hi! I really did need a new challenge to stir my brain cells! Here's my response to it, for what it's worth: "Trevor and the Queen"It's just a sort of humorous little ficlet. It's in the "Friends of Charming Roots" section of the board and is rated K+.

Hey there! The sell-by date's passed. With all the Christmas exchange fics folks were writing, I don't think anyone had time for this particular challenge.
Do we want to extend the deadline? Or just start a brand new Triplet challenge?
In any case, maybe we could move this down to the Challenges board. I would LOVE to see lots of activity over here this year! (I know I've not been around much, myself, but I've been dropping by regularly lately to see what's happening.)
Anyway, I hope that "Trevor and the Queen" wasn't just too silly for words! (Silly, of course, but not tooooo silly! LOL)

I agree, Madam. I think the sell-by date is passed too. I admit to not having this one strike me and being busy this season past. I am hoping to be here more often this year too. I really miss the chats we had in the cbox. I will pass it by Laura about moving this one. Perhaps revive the other challenges over on the board with a new set to get the creative juices flowing? ;D Though for the time being, I think it is your turn to come up with some prompts for this Challenge. I tink it is safe to say, you won. And I am glad you had loads of creativity flowing around you. My Muse seems very fickle these days.

I think I'd stick with person/place/thing, though there are other possibilities -- animal/vegetable/mineral, time/manner/place, for example. Just let me know when and where to post! It would be great if we could have two or three overlapping challenges going. Maybe a "first line" or "last line" challenge, where the challenger provides a sentence and then the responders have to build a story around it. I'm sure there are many other possibilities, too! But having them overlap rather than coincide might be a good idea -- say, one w/ an ending date of the first of the month and one on the fifteenth? Anyway, those are just a few of my thoughts on it. Do people enjoy writing for challenges? I actually like writing for the little mini-challenges rather than the longer ones, myself, but maybe people would like more complex challenges and several months to write chaptered fics? I'd read 'em if people wrote 'em! Whether they were flashfics, longere one-shots, or chaptered fics!
