“Holo holo adventure”
Summary: Filius and Pomona celebrate their wedding anniversary on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
Pairing: FFPS
Rating: T for now; this will change.
A/N: “Holo holo” is Hawaiian for “just looking around”, but it implies having fun too. To pronounce any Hawaiian word, simply say all of the letters; an okina is a ‘ mark for which we pause (a “glottal stop” is the official term).
Happy birthday to Sprinkles!
“Are you ready, dearest? We don’t want to miss our Portkey,” said Filius, sounding (for him anyway) a bit anxious. “Well, the first of three, I should say.”
Pomona smiled as she tucked a few more items of clothing into her suitcase, cast a non-verbal Featherlight charm, and waited for her husband to Shrink their luggage so it would fit in the roomy cargo pocket of his khaki trousers. His shirt was short-sleeved, mainly tan and green, with interesting tiny markings that he’d described as “Polynesian”.
“Of course,” she replied, still smiling. “You could always tell me where we are going… that way I’d know that I’d packed properly!” She leaned over to give him a kiss on the nose. “You look very handsome, by the way.”
Flitwick blushed his gratitude, his chocolate-brown eyes sparkling at her. “That would spoil the surprise.” This last statement made her giggle; a sound that always had him going weak at the knees. He checked his pocket-watch and grinned as he took up an innocuous looking porcelain teacup from their suite’s breakfast table. “The first stop is Maine, and the second is California…”
“And the third?” she asked teasingly.
He raised one eyebrow. “Is the surprise, my dear Professor Sprout,” said Filius, gesturing for her to lean closer. “A kiss for luck?”
Pomona smiled fondly, closed her eyes and moved her lips softly over his, lingering a bit when she heard his happy sigh. She reached for his hand on the teacup and then immediately felt the disconcerting squeeze of the Portkey activating; it always felt like her body was squeezing through a Muggle-style garden hose, but navel first.
In the next heartbeat, they were standing on the shoreline of eastern Maine, the loud sounds of gulls and terns raucously calling around them. She stood upright, stretching as she looked around in her delight.
“We’ll have to stop here for a day or two on the way back,” whispered Filius, knowing full well what her next words would be. His beloved Herbologist was an outdoorsy-sort of witch and he was sure that the birds and plants in this coastal Maine town would pique her curiosity, whether they were magical or not. “Ready for southern California?”
Pomona smiled and nodded, waiting as he muttered the Charm that re-calibrated the teacup Portkey for the next segment of their journey west.
Seconds later, the salty breeze of the Pacific Ocean gently brushed their hair, only this time from the opposite side of their bodies. For a moment, Pomona wondered if the birds were the same species they’d just left in Bar Harbor and she filed this thought away for later.
“Living at Hogwarts, I forget how much I love the smell of the ocean,” she said with a sigh. “This is beautiful.”
Filius smiled brightly. “I am glad to hear it. One more stop, and we’ll celebrate our anniversary by the ocean, my dear.”
Pomona grinned and laughed out loud. “Oh, so that is part of your cunning plan, is it?” She reached down to straighten his collar, and played with the top two buttons of his shirt as he re-calibrated the Portkey once more. “Mmm, I think I like this Muggle style… easier to remove!”
Flitwick fought down a blush, concentrating for the moment on their destination. “Last stop… Hawai’i.”
Pomona gasped as the Portkey took them rapidly across the sea, and moments later, the tropical scents tickled her nose as they arrived. The wild plumeria and ginger were in full bloom. When she opened her eyes, she squeaked in astonishment as a dark-haired, handsome young man placed a fragrant circle of flowers around her neck. Dimly, she recognized a few of them as orchids and some she couldn’t quite place.
“Welcome to the Big Island, Professor Sprout,” said the young man, kissing her cheek and stepping back a pace. His flawless white teeth shone from a smooth, tanned face. He couldn’t help but smile at her undisguised look of wonder. “I am Kimo, and this is my sister, Kapane.”
The young woman, introduced as Kapane, was just as youthful, tanned and attractive as he. She leaned to place a lei around Filius’ neck, kissed the wizard’s cheek in greeting and watched as Pomona took his hand. Kapane smiled at her brother, who shrugged and winked.
“Oh, Filius,” she said softly, tears gathering in her eyes. “This is the most wonderful surprise…”
“Welcome to you both,” said Kapane, pushing her long black hair behind her ears in an unconscious gesture. “Here, we say ‘aloha’. Your accommodations at Kea’au are ready, and we can Apparate there with you this first time.”
Filius nodded, reaching up to kiss his wife’s hand. “That will be fine, Kapane. And thank you too, Kimo.” He paused, giving Pomona’s fingers a gentle squeeze.
“Let me be the first to say… aloha, Pomona!”

A/N: these plot bunnies are not an orderly bunch at all but I will do my best to sort through them as they attack me, fast and furious. Get in line, you bad bunnies!
