511 words - i knew it ought be less than 500, but i just cannot take a single word out of there...
I picked #6: last, because i wanted to write something that was inspired by 'lasting forever'.
Hope you guys enjoy it.
The couple walked through the hall, stared at by ghosts. Sir Nicholas floated by, slightly nodding. The Bloody Baron following in his chilling wake. Holding hands, Pomona and Filius entered the Great Hall.
"Seems as if nothing changed..." Pomona looked up at the enchanted ceiling, seeing the clear blue skies as if she was outdoors.
"It almost feels as if all is the same. Strange knowing better."
"I must say that Minerva has done a wonderful job. Do you recall that we left this place as it had crumbled?"
"That final battle has taken its toll..." Filius said, a tear welling up in his eye.
Pomona followed Filius' gaze. His eyes were fixed on the place where he had taken care of the magical, floating swamp Fred and George Weasley had constructed.
Squeezing his hand, Pomona led her man to the other side of the room. The tables were back in place and even the professor's chairs were all restored to their original splendor.
"It is hard imagining we'll be sitting here in a couple of weeks. It will be devastating trying to pretend nothing has happened." Filius sounded depressed. He had lost his best friend and the one person who would enjoy a good friendly duel.
"We will never pretend nothing happened. We will learn to live with the pain and the grieve and the devastation we have experienced. We'll give it all a place and live our lives in memory of the war."
Pomona washed a tear from Filius' face with her thumb.
Filius had been there during her nightmares and her screams had been softened by his embrace and soft words. He had held her when she was afraid and he had comforted her when she cried. He had given her hope when she was in doubt and lost and now, after being away from the scene for a couple of weeks, his pain was coming out.
"We know what happened. We will never forget, Filius. But i don't think that Albus had wanted us to put a stop to our lives. He would have wanted us to move on, to embrace our lives and to be there for Minerva. Albus enjoyed being a professor. He loved his students. Like we both do."
Pomona fell silent, not knowing what else to say. How to comfort someone else's pain when he doesn't let you near?
Filius took her hand and she gazed into his eyes.
"While all this was crumbling around his, while everything we knew for certain became chaos, you were always with me." He said in a soft voice.
Pomona swallowed. "Like you were there for me." she managed to squeeze from her chords.
She saw him take a deep breath.
"This castle, this school, has been here for centuries and we will be together for the better part of this one and the next. I think we'll make it. Know what i mean?" Filius smiled.
"I think you mean that a good thing will last forever." Pomona answered before kissing him soundly.
