“What do you think you are doing?”
Filius froze on the spot, as the commanding voice rang out behind him. He didn’t want to turn around and see the look on her face. He didn’t want to feel her wrath.
“Going for a quick walk,” he squeaked out.
“Really?” The voice became torturously light and it scared Filius to death. “Because it looks to me as if you are going to stand up one of my friends.”
Filius swallowed slowly. He would have to face her sooner or later, and as much as Filius would like it to be later, he knew he’d have to turn around. He turned on his heel, spreading a wide smile on his face. “No, not at all,” he replied, cheerfully.
Pomona suddenly looked upset, and Filius immediately moved closer. “What’s wrong?” he asked.
“I was just trying to make you happy. I thought you and Cecilia would be nice together. You both have the same temperaments, and she loves Charms as much as you do. And now I’ve made you lie to me. You never lie to me,” she replied, looking into his eyes.
Filius swallowed again. “Pomona, I didn’t want to lie to you. You just looked so happy when I said yes, that I couldn’t say no when I found out what you really meant. I’m not interested in Cecilia.”
“I’m sorry I tried to push you into something you didn’t want…” Pomona replied, as she pulled him in for a quick hug. “I’ll just go make sure that Cecilia knows you won’t be able to attend your date.”
Filius watched her hips as he counted her steps walking away from him. He sighed, wondering if he would ever get the courage to tell her how he really felt.
