Title: New Friends
Rating: EH for Everyone Here
Genre: Fluff, according to Stef who knows all
A/N: I hope you enjoy! This just kind of came to me today. And yes, it is named after Austen's Bingley.
“What do you think you are doing, my furry friend?”
The large grey cat paid Filius no mind as it settled in his lap. Cautiously, Filius stroked the unfamiliar cat’s back and then, as it began to purr, reached to check the collar. He had just made out the name when he heard the door to the staff room open.
“Oh, Bingley, there you are.”
Filius looked up to find a vision of loveliness standing before him. Rosy cheeks, honey brown eyes, and medium brown curls made for running his fingers through was his first impression, followed quickly by a dazzling smile and sky blue robes showing off feminine curves, tanned arms, and shapely calves.
She lifted the heavy cat from his lap easily, and then extended her hand. “Pomona Sprout, the new Herbology professor.”
Filius stood hurriedly, realizing he had been staring. “Filius Flitwick. I’m so glad to meet you, Professor.”
“Oh, call me Pomona, please. I was just getting settled in my rooms and suddenly Bingley was missing. I suppose I will have to be more careful with my door, though I was sure it was closed.”
“Oh that’s just the castle,” Filius said, wanting to smooth her furrowed brow. “It’s very accommodating to felines for whatever reason.” Filius shared a smile with Pomona, and then gave into Bingley, who was reaching for him, and scratched behind the cat’s ears.
“Well, I will keep that in mind. I’m sorry he intruded, Professor.”
As she said his title, Filius had a flash of a seventeen year old Pomona sitting in the second row to the left in his classroom. The thought that she had been his student, even if it had been his first year teaching and she had been a seventh year, made him a bit uncomfortable.
“Call me Filius, please.” Her smile and nod put him at ease and gave him the courage to continue. “Would you, and Bingley of course, like to join me for a nightcap?”
Pomona smiled again. “That would be lovely.”
She sat in the chair across from his and they began to chat as he poured their drinks. Filius handed her the Soda and Cherry Syrup she had requested and took his own to his seat. Bingley immediately jumped down from Pomona’s lap only to jump into Filius’.
“Oh, Bingley…” Pomona started to get up, but Filius stopped her.
“He’s fine. Besides, it is good to make new friends. Don’t you agree?”
Pomona blushed, making an even more attractive image if such a thing were possible.
“And some friends are better than others.” She paused for emphasis. “Much better than others.”
It was his turn to blush.
“To friends, then,” Filius toasted, and Bingley purred in agreement.
