Disclaimer: Sadly, it isn't mine.
Genre: I think Somewhat-Charming-Roots, as Mona and Fil aren't really mentioned together. But, failing that, fluff. So, I'll let the trusty admins decide.
Rating: A-okay
Word Count: 296. Whew! Barely made it.
Author's Notes: This was written very quickly, but, I think it's cute. So, the very first challenge response! Yay! ;D
Maybe this business wasn't really the best idea, Melanie Flitwick reflected as she squeezed yet another lemon in an effort to concoct lemonade. She could have just asked Dad if she could borrow the money. But, to her, this was like giving up, and Melanie did not give up.
"Have a nice day," she said, forcing herself to smile as her customer walked away. Even though she was only nine years old, she did possess a keen business sense. At least, enough to know that any grown-up would buy her lemonade if she smiled and looked cute.
Melanie wiped tiredly at her forehead before peering up and down the sidewalk. There were no people coming, and her curiosity was becoming too much to bear, so she quickly opened the small cardboard box she was using to collect her money. Happy to find that the silver and bronze coins were almost spilling over the top, she sifted through the pile, counting out her profits. If she had enough, then her father had promised to take her to Diagon Alley to buy her mother a birthdy present.
"Yes!" she exclaimed, pouring the coins hurriedly back into the box and dismanteling the worn-out sign she had been advertising with. She had enough! Dad had told her he would exchange all of her change for Galleons, so she would have ten in all! Her mother was going to be so surprised.

"Oh, Mel!" Pomona gasped, fingering the silver pendant that hung off her new necklace. "It's gorgeous!" And indeed it was. The charm was in the shape of a Lilly of the Valley, her birth flower. Melanie beamed with pleasure.
"I'm glad you like it Mum." Pomona reached forward and envoloped her daughter in a loving embrace.
"It's the best birthday present ever."
