Neville looked down at his dearest friend, laying in his deathbed. It was hard to imagine a day without the only one who had been with him from the very beginning. When his family had been convinced he was lacking magic, his friend had never seemed to notice. He had been the one to introduce Neville to his very first friends at Hogwarts. Without his help, Neville would never have come up with the courage to speak to Hannah at all, much less marry her. He could not help but think that there was very little he had done for his friend in return, but Neville hoped that with this last bit of dignity he might make up for some of it. “Ready, Nev?” He nodded in Hannah’s direction, afraid he might truly break down if he spoke. She squeezed his hand lightly as she placed the lid on the shoe box and placed it in the hole he had dug moments before. Taking a handful of dirt, Neville sprinkled it across the makeshift casket and closed his eyes in a final goodbye. In the end, it was Hannah who planted the beautiful Toad Lily he had picked out to mark the grave and placed the small plaque before it. Here lies Trevor the Toad, Trusted Friend A/N: Written for the Rolling Rambles Challenge #2. Here is a look at the Toad Lily... home.howstuffworks.com/toad-lily.htm
Please be nice. It has been a while since the muse showed and I am trying to entreat him to stay!

I blinked when I read the first line. Then I had to remember, "oh, yeah, it was 'any era,' and just 'cause you have Obliviated DH and everything post-HBP from your brain doesn't mean everyone else has. And I think Neville eventually became the Herbology teacher." I slapped my forehead and got over my blockhead moment. Then I could get on with the story and enjoy it! LOL! But it was sad. The bit with how he became encouraged to show his interest in Hannah was sweet. I love little details like that. It gave a touch of warmth to the sad little fic. Poor Trevor. I wonder if he had a long life for a toad. It would seem so. I'm sure Neville took very good care of him! Maybe somebody will get fluffy in response to your challenge. Or lemony, even! But right now, I'd love some more fluff. Or humor. Yeah, I'm demanding!
