Title: Someday...
Genre: There should be a Diet Angst section or something. lol
Summary: A confession leads to a heartbreak and so much more.
The sound broke the silence, which had gone on far too long. It was only a glass shattering, not a totally uncommon noise, but to Pomona it was the sound of the end of every dream she held dear.
He looked at her finally, not even watching as he cast a wandless reparo and restored the wine glass, which had slipped from her suddenly cold fingers.
“I do like you, Pomona, surely you know that, but I just can’t be involved with anyone right now. I’m still working on my mastery, my dueling training takes up nearly all my time. You are my closest friend and I barely see you as it is and then only at the last minute. It wouldn’t be fair to either of us right now.”
“Not now.” She smiled, tears threatening to fall at any moment. “I understand. I just thought y-you should know.”
Filius brought his chair closer to hers and laid his hand on hers. When she didn’t move away, he began tracing patterns across her smooth, tan skin. He looked into her eyes, and felt his own heart leap. “Believe when I say I do, and I hope you know that I-“
She stopped him with a shake of her head as she bit her lips and closed her eyes against the tears.
It was only later, when she had gone, leaving him to his thoughts of what might have been and what must be, that he picked up the glass. Holding it tightly for a moment, Filius wished it were as easy to repair Pomona’s heart, and his own, as it had been the glass. Coming to a decision, he sat the glass in a place of honor on his bookshelf. It would serve as a reminder of a promise he had made to himself years before when he had first met Pomona. A promise that had lately become a mantra of one single word, which he had been repeating to himself over and over even as he repaired the glass and broke her heart. A promise he had been thinking of so hard that it was now etched into the glass itself.
