Pomona checked herself in the mirror. She had made work of her appearance for a change and was wearing some light make up, a necklace and a Muggle outfit of a pair of black trousers and a white top and a black jacket. She looked at herself in happy anticipation. They had arranged to meet in a swish London place and Pomona couldn’t wait to see the others again.
In Scotland, Minerva was doing the same as her friend. She was wearing a long green dress and had her hair in a loose bun. Her eyes were highlighted by some kohl and mascara and she flashed a ring in the mirror and felt almost embarrased by the smile on her face. She longed to see her friends again and it was a moment of inspiration that Poppy had the grand idea to meet up in Muggle London.
Poppy was sitting in the window of a fancy London restaurant and checked her reflection. She was glad to be out of her nurses uniform. Her curly hair came down in waves and she could smell her perfume. Her skirt and blouse were not at all practical and it was a good thing the sun was out, because otherwise it would have been too chilly to wear.
She had chosen a window seat so she could see her friends arriving and she was not surprised to see Pomona and Minerva coming up the street together. It was a great sight to see the two of them talking, since Minerva was at least a head taller than Pomona. Pomona was a very physical talker, gesturing with her arms. Poppy waved at them and enjoyed the lighting up of the two faces before her. She could see they were both in good spirits.
Inside they all hugged and kissed and started cooing right awway. Orders of white wine went out and the menu’s were scrutinized until they could all find something to their liking. They checked out the waiters cute little bum, pointed at a hideously dressed woman outside on the curb and commented on each others outfits.
The cute waiter returned with their drinks and the complentary bread and took their orders.
“I’ll have the poached salmon, please.” Minerva said, instantly revealing to the others her Animagus form, which made all three of them giggle.
“I will have the vegetable lasagne.” Pomona asked, betting her eyes, pleading with the others to say nothing about her vegetarian choice.
“I will have the smoked chicken salad, dressing on the side please.” Poppy avoided choosing a rare steak, not in fear of her friends’ comments, but because she had seen enough blood in the emergency room this week. She would never understand how children could get into accidents that easily: where there no parents to mind them?!
Patiently they waited for their orders and chatted away. They toasted a few times: “To eternal friendship!” “To Hogwarts in general!” “To the summer holidays!”. Of course both Pomona and Poppy could see the faint blush on Minerva’s cheeks when they toasted Hogwarts. Pomona could barely hold her tongue, but followed Poppy’s lead: strategy at all times when it came to Minerva’s affairs du coeur. Nobody could forget the hex she put on an unfortunale Ravenclaw when she asked if Minerva had fallen in love with a boy in her form. Poppy and Pomona would never make the same mistake of being impertinent without a plan. Pomona was pretty certain Poppy’s plan involved a few more Chardonnays…
