I'm going to write everything I think, eventually, my thoughts are everywhere still though. No Charming Roots or ADMM, though, really . I was disappointed that Min's cat patronuses went to different places to get Fil and Mona. I loved the book, and it's by far the best. I was worried I'd hate it, because of the doubting Albus stuff, but I didn't and that talk was necessary. Though my faith in him as a person always remained. Ahhh! It's all over Oh, and I'm finding it hard to even comprehend writing ADMM, it wasn't very hopeful for them :S Help.

I thought the whole book had a rushed, unfinished feel. The last chapter was incredibly cliched and it felt to me like badly written fanfic.
I was a little disappointed (though not suprised) with tha lack of MMADness too, but at least neither was married to someone else. I thought there was a hint of charming roots in that the few times they were mentioned, except one if I'm right, they were mentioned together. (ok, a tenuous connection I know, but I was clutching at straws)
I felt there were also a lot of unanswered questions. How are we meant to accept that the Hogwarts teachers would just stand by and allow Snape and the Carrows to torture students? Why did Min not feature in the moving of Harry? she was a fairly prominant member of the Order, surely she would have been there if Mundungus Fletcher was. And surely she would have been at the wedding if the Lovegoods were invited? I know it would have been impossible to write the goings on at Hogwarts as Harry wasn't there; but just the odd conversation between Harry and Lupin, or Bill and Fleur, or even Ron when he went back, to say what was happening there and show the teachers weren't taking the changes lying down would have been nice.
As you can probably tell I was disappointed overall with the book. I'm going to read it again tomorrow, so I will hopefully be able to find something I actually liked about it.
Rant over... lol

Well, I shared a lot of your thoughts at first, especially about everyone seeming to ignore Voldemort being in charge of the Ministry and Hogwarts. Then I realised that the message, I hope, was that they were just trying to survive and keep people as safe as possible. They didn't know who they could trust at all.
And of course they did fight. Min kicked arse, but I was terrified she wouldn't be in it at all. Though I suppose her required presence at Hogwarts meant she couldn't be a very obvious member of the order.
And I didn't like the epilogue much at first, then I did because it was necessary. Some of the aftermath of the war would have been nice too, but I see why she ended it that way and gave it closure in the sense that nothing else that mattered too much happened, really.
I need to read it again much more slowly.

The last chapter, to me, sort of assumed that we were only interested in what happened to the trio and as the series was primerally about them I suppose most people would be. But I would have liked to have known a bit about the other characters too.
I found it a bit predictable too; Harry and Ginny, Hermione and Ron...

May I just break my own rule for a moment and say... DAMN DAMN DAMN!
I really agree with you Jaye. It felt incredibly rushed and I still felt like there was so much more I wanted to know.
I do think that Amy was right about the teachers, but I wonder how much mouthing off they really did, like Min's comment to Snape. I am sure that they did their best to protect their students.
I did love that Sprout dove in headfirst. That was awesome. I actually said "Go Pomona" but it was soft as it was around 4 and everyone is asleep.
The part with them just meandering about the forests of England (which may I say, I didn't realize it was so agrarian, is it?) seemed so... I don't know, nonsensical? I just didn't understand where they came up with the idea or why they were doing it really. It just seemed incredibly stupid and unsafe.
Will I get beaten if I say I am actually sad that Snape was good in the end? It felt a bit cliched that he would at the last moment give Harry this memory that happened to explain everything. I'm not saying I have a better answer for it, but still.
The part about the carved throne of muggle bodies, and the part right after that when Yaxley (I think) taunts Ron about the wife of the guy he looks like still make my stomach turn. I had a Holocaust studies flashback and nearly stopped reading for good.
I will probably reread at a slower pace this week, but I needed to finish it tonight, no matter how disappointed I am.
Also, I forgot to say that I really hated that the spiders turned against Hagrid in the end. What the hell was that? Did I misread it?

Well, the spiders were always evil I thought. *Beats Laura with fluff bat* No I'm joking, I'm happy Snape was good though.
I still like it.

But I thought they would stand by Hagrid, everyone else I could understand, but surely Hagrid they wouldn't carry off to devour!?!

Well, Aragog was dying, and he was really the only one who held any sentiments for Hagrid. Besides, all spiders are pure evil. *Ahem*

I was somewhat disappointed with the new one... I hate to say it, since it's the last one and I'm a huge HP fan, but I was.... It was very disappointing...

I agree with, well, basically everything said so far. It was so RUSHED! During the battle scenes I could barely understand what was happening or who was battling whom. It was confusing. The chapters where Harry, Ron, and Hermione (well, just Harry and Hermione for a bit) wandered around the countryside just seemed slow and monotonous and a wee bit pointless. What were they doing??? But I must say that there were select moments I will love above all else, such as Mrs. Weasley in the Final Battle ("NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" , Bellatrix in the beginning and all the Bella/Voldemort hints going on, and Neville, who kicked ass. Not my favorite book, but it was okay . . . .

But it's not okay because it is the last one, so it really should have gone out with a bang.
I did love Molly. She was awesome. Neville too. I would love to see what was going on at Hogwarts all year.

I loved it, actually. The Snape angst, the Dumbledore backstory, the Minerva-is-awesome chapter, King's Cross, the Snape angst, the Dumbledore backstory, the Lily backstory, Dudley...
Did I mention the Dumbledore backstory? I LOVED THAT.
Can you tell I'm a DD fangirl? Really? Am I really that obvious?

Well, that wasn't the only thing I thought DH had going for it.
As much as I disliked the whole "wandering around England for thirty billion chapters" thing, I thought that it was very exciting and moving. And, as a character fangirl and a lit fangirl, I was uber excited by the fleshing out of characters, and the way Jo had carefully built all these lovely archetypes for her doods and then how she tore them all down like some sort of manic toddler.

I thought the book was okay.... I don't know. I hated - okay not hated, but STRONGLY DISLIKED the wandering around England parts, and I really only started getting into the book when they got to Hogwarts. I didn't like teh doubting Dumbledore bits. I really loved the part where Harry put that curse (omg I can't believe I don't remember what it is.... ) on the one Carrow because he spit at Minerva.. I thought that part was brilliant. And, like everyone else, I LOVED MOLLY WEASLEY !!!! that was brilliant. and I was really sad to see Lupin and Tonks die. I loved them. But... I do agree completely that the book was rushed. In some parts I was getting kind of confused as to the backstory about Dumbledore and the Horcruxes and at first I thought that was beacuse I'm dumb jock - lmao- but Cody assured me that even she got mixed up in some parts, and that was due to the rushing of things. Um... I think I'm done love Crys

My favourite sentence from the book: "Harry [...] saw Dolohov fall with a scream at Flitwick’s hands..." It couldn't be otherwise!

Both Filius and Pomona kicked some butt in this one, didn't they? It was awesome.
