I am flying into London tomorrow for a weeks worth of spending money. I will be buying new jeans (they only have the ones that fit me there), DVD's, CD's, books, more clothes and we will eat glorious food we don't have here. I will be leaving my poor old man at home and i will most probably not check the board - but i might bring back pictures.... but don't count on it, this is going to be the fifteenth time i am going and i have never ever made pictures before...
I'll miss you guys and perhaps i might return with heaps of new fics!
love, pinkie

The musical was magical - i had never expected it to be nice, because i don't like musicals much. Of course Mary Poppins holds a special place in my heart, because it was the only videotape we had in our house, so i watched it over and over and over again. The stage production was very different from the film and also from the books (which i have actually read and loved). There were many of the songs we know from the disney version - the actress playing Mary was outstanding, i thought no-one could surpass Julie Andrews, but she gave it a really good try! My schock-moment was when Mr Banks came on and it turned out to be Aden Gillet - one of my all time favorite actors! Because we hadn't seen any of the announcements, we didn't know he would be in it. He was great!!! If you ever get the chance, go see it, they close January 12th, which means you have very little time... Next year we'll probably go to The Sound of Music - more youth sentiment

I love the Sound of Music. I'll tell you if it's good when I've been.
I'm glad it was good.
I love London.

I love the Sound of Music too. I was in it in high school, but I had a bad chest cold and sore throat at auditions. so I was only a nun and the crazy lady who places at the contest. That was awesome though. lol Craziest part I have ever played and that includes the time I licked a guy.

Cool! Unfortunately drama is no part of the Dutch curriculum and we never did any of it in school, i probably would have loved it (though would have wet myself in fear of the auditions!)

I can't imagine no drama. What about art, music, dance, photography, etc?

no, none of that. you go to school to learn, they feel - there are schools where you can take a form of art that is also art history, which i really wanted to do, but if i did, i couldn't take french and german. i am not much of an arts and crafts person anyway, but i do love to see what other people can do!
school in the us is very different from school in holland - as is college.

I went to a school that stressed the fine arts and incorporated the arts into our core subjects (math, social studies, english, science, etc.). There have been studies done that students who are involved in music perform better on math tests. Music, art, and even dance (though I'm not naturally gifted at any of them with the possible exception of music) are important to my life even now. I can't imagine going to a school that didn't offer any of that. Wow. School must be very, very different from the US.

I wouldn't recommend it either... I dropped math when i was fifteen, i was so glad to be rid of it! I took Dutch and English, both the only subjects you have to do, German and French, History and Geography and Biology, for my 'O-levels' before dropping that for my 'A-levels' - i use these terms because some of you might understand them. So i took the six courses, played hooky on every gym-class from age sixteen and felt pretty happy about it! In my case school was alright, i hated the people there, but i loved learning. Still do. Classes started at 8,30, and we were finished around either three or four, depending on how many courses you took. And then there was homework of course (which i hardly ever did. You might wonder why i became a teacher in the first place... i copuldn't say, it must have been temporary insanity!) The Dutch school-system has changed, so i don't know how it works these days, there are a sort of packages yopu choose and math is not a choice anymore. Glad to be older I think i might have liked photography and music. I am not very good, but i love to sing and i can make great pics, if i don't forget...
